Water supply pipes from basalt FRP

14.08.2009

The laying of the pipelines from the unique material of the fourth generation – basalt FRP - started in Izhevsk for the first time. Technology of its production had been developed for the defense industry 30 years ago already.

Service life of the steel pipes is shortened from year to year – nowadays they are «enough» for 3-5 years maximum. The scourge is the corrosion and occlusion by deposits. That’s why this year the company “Udmurtskie public systems” decided to decline fully the steel pipes laying on the hot water routes and switch to the use of the pipes from chrysotile, polypropylene, cross-linked polyethylene and basalt FRP.

Last year Sarapul became the experimental ground for implementation of this material. 300 meters of basalt FRP pipes were laid there.

«7 dwellings, school and clinic have been already connected to this route, the pipes laid there were tragically worn, there were a lot of leaks, - Iljaz Gilyazutdinov, the deputy director of the production-technical department, clarifies, - after substitution of the old steel pipes by the basalt FRP the situation has been fundamentally changed – no one claim, ideal order, I hope all these will last for 105 years – such guarantee is given by the manufacturer. This year the basalt FRP pipes laying will be continued in Sarapul, it is planned to assemble 414 meters».

In 2009 in Izhevsk basalt FRP pipes will be laid on 10 areas of the municipal heating line with the total length 1567 meters.
